If you’re anything like me, you probably can’t wait until travel is allowed again, and start exploring parts of the globe you haven’t seen before. So we put together a list of locations ideal for photographing, once it’s safe to do so.
Look out for ways that each area may have been affected by Covid which you can photograph. Are there tourists wearing masks or Covid signposts scattered around? Make sure to capture this as it shows the locations in a new light.
Top locations to photograph
Lake District, UK
If you love walking and exploring the outdoors, this is the location for you. One spot in particular that’s great is Lake Windemere. I visited this area when I was a lot younger, but can still remember how wonderful the scenery is to this day. Think about time of day – if you want to capture the lake at golden hour when there’s a warm natural glow, head to the lake just before sunrise or just before sunset. Or, if you prefer a moody looking shot with clouds overhead, check the weather before you head out.
Oxford, UK
Haven’t visited Oxford yet? You should! As home to the 64ÌåÓýheadquarters, Oxford city is a great place if you like capturing amazing architecture. Punts on the river at Magdalen Bridge, the Bridge of Sighs and the Radcliffe Camera are all spectacular to see. Be creative when shooting and think about different angles – this will ensure your images stand out from the crowd.
Copenhagen, Denmark
The famous Nyhavn is an area not to be missed. The city is beaming with people exploring the waterfront promenade, and there are photo opportunities at every corner. The hues of the buildings make for a vibrant and aesthetically pleasing image. Try to also think about other elements that you can capture, whether it be a passing boat or a simple reflection when the water is still.
Barcelona, Spain
Full of great architecture, Barcelona is a city all photographers should seek to experience.  If you have a drone, I would recommend taking an aerial view of the city as it will produce an incredible image showing how intricately Barcelona was built.
Hutt Lagoon (The Pink Lake), Western Australia
This breath-taking lake sees thousands of visitors each year, and it’s easy to see why. If you want to capture the stunning pink hues to its full potential, the best time to shoot would be midday, preferably without clouds.
Utah, USA
Arches and Canyonlands, Utah is heavily photographed, but there is a reason for that. Such a simple arch makes a huge impact in one image. We would recommend shooting at sunrise or sunset as this allows the red-orange hues to seep through and elevate the whole image.
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA
If you’re a lover of wildlife, you’ll love this next location. The Grand Teton National Park is home to multiple species from bison to eagles – so you’re bound to capture something great. If you’re photographing an animal, think about how you want your image to look. Will you use a wide aperture and focus on just the animal, or do you want grand mountains to be in focus in all their glory too?
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
If you’ve ever thought about going to Bali, I’m sure you’ll be aware of Ubud, and in particular, the rice fields there. Anywhere you stand, you’re guaranteed to get a good shot. If you’re planning on photographing the rice fields in the afternoon, the blue skies will provide you with great natural lighting.
