For the first feature of the year we want to put the spotlight on photographer Eva Ozkoidi who found her love for fine art photography.
Here’s what Eva said when we interviewed her.
CG: What kind of story do you want to tell with your photos?
EO: I try to make my portraits inspire an emotional reaction. I like a nostalgic, romantic attitude to be portrayed in my imagery. In this image I wanted to reflect the emotion or feeling of peace and serenity of a mature couple, who show tenderness and support for each other. He wears black, she wears white (ying and yang), he is in the middle ground of the shadow, but she leans on him.

CG: How do you compose a good fine art image?
EO: It starts with wanting to express an idea, a message or an emotion, with colour playing an important role. It has to be direct and forceful and for me this is achieved with the concept of ‘less is more’. Less is more is a kind of dogma, which above all means simple, clean images, without much artifice which distracts attention from what we want to convey. The opposite to baroque is Japanese minimalism, to put it in some way.
CG: What motivates you to keep on being creative?
EO: I want to overcome myself through learning from the masters. I want to get that image that leaves you glued to it, where you can’t stop looking at it, be it because of the content, the composition, the colour, or the emotion it transmits.
CG: How long have you been a photographer and what made you want to get into photography?
EO: I’ve been dedicated to photography for 10 years. I was driven by wanting to reflect the beauty that I saw in a landscape, a scene and I’m currently in love with fine art. It’s the discipline that motivates me the most. I am a decorator – I have always liked art, I like museums, cinema, architecture, beauty in general, and of course photography.
CG: How do you edit your images?
EO: I take great care with styling, colour, skin treatment, double exposure, filters. I am self-taught and during the pandemic I took advantage of the time and followed many editing tutorials to learn Photoshop. I have also done a workshop with portrait and landscape photography.
